MINISTER ONGKILI INVITES ALL MALAYSIANS TO INSPIRE THE WORLD AT EXPO 2017

Malaysia’s Green Growth Guru Intern winners get coaching from Minister Ongkili as they prepare for their mission to EXPO 2017

PUTRAJAYA – In a gathering of EXPO 2017 delegation members, Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water, Malaysia, YB Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili provided a call-to-action for all Malaysians to inspire the world towards a green future during EXPO 2017, happening from 10 June to 10 September 2017 in Astana, Kazakhstan.

Minister Ongkili stated, “We have an unprecedented opportunity over the next 4 months to prove to the world that green growth is in our nature and that the best way to Create a Green Future is with Malaysia.  We have become an emerging market model and we need to use that leadership to prove that an emerging market can drive positive change towards future energy.”

He continued, “We aim to promote cooperation and trade in green energy with Kazakhstan as well as the other over 100 participating countries at EXPO 2017.  Malaysia will help build conversation and discussion about future energy through our Malaysia Energy Forum entitled, “Tapping the Potential of the ASEAN Energy Market.”

The Malaysia-spearheaded forum will be hosted by Minister Ongkili on 12 June 2017 as part of the Malaysia Pavilion activity.

Also introduced at today’s gathering were Malaysia’s Green Growth Guru interns who will become members of the Malaysian delegation to EXPO 2017 with a mission to engage and inspire their peers towards a green future. The winners are Jasmin Irisha and Xiandi Ooi.

Minister Ongkili stated, “I had the opportunity to do a bit of coaching with our two Green Growth Guru interns who will help package and carry our message to the world – especially to their millennial peers.  And after meeting them, I am confident we will enjoy great success at EXPO 2017 as they are both energetic, smart and tenacious about our mission.”

During the gathering, a call-to-action was put forth to Malaysians to post their Green Growth inspirations on social media with the hashtag #MyButterflyEffect and stand a chance to win an all-expenses paid trip to share their ideas at EXPO 2017.

Themed “Future Energy”, EXPO 2017 aims to create global debate between countries, non-governmental organisations, companies and the general public regarding the decisive impact that energy management has on the lives of people and that of the planet.

The Malaysia Pavilion carries the theme “Powering Green Growth” where business matching sessions and pocket talks will be held based on weekly themes that reflect Malaysia’s strengths in various fields of green energy, green technology and the economy.

EXPO 2017 will be held in Astana, Kazakhstan from 10 June to 10 September.
